Season and time changes making you moody? Eat some yogurt!
Well, I don't know about you but I am not a big fan of losing an hour of sleep with daylight savings. Having said that, here's an interesting tidbit.
Change in seasons and sleep patterns often has an impact on our mood.
"What's that have to do with yogurt?” you might ask.
Our mood has a direct connection to our gut, called the gut-brain axis. The gut produces neurotransmitters that impact our mood and when that process is disrupted, we can feel grumpy. Inflammation can also be a result of poor gut health. This is where yogurt comes in.
Yogurt is a probiotic, which is a food supplement that improves the good bacteria in our body and aids with our digestive health. And we all know how we feel when our digestion is messed up, right? When our digestion is in order, however.... Do yourself a favor and take care of your gut.
Other probiotic foods include kefir, fermented veggies (kimchi),
sauerkraut, miso, and tempeh.
We hear a lot about probiotics, but don't forget prebiotic foods. Prebiotics are foods high in fiber, which act as food for the gut bacteria which aid in our digestive health. Foods such as garlic, onions, asparagus, artichokes, whole grains (oats, barley), bananas, apples, nuts and seeds are considered prebiotic. So don’t worry about the weather or that we lost an hour of sleep because of daylight savings. Up the intake of pre and probiotics - along with maintaining that fitness regime, of course - to thrive in 2025!
