SUMMER IS HERE!

A MESSAGE FROM COACH WENDY

SUMMER is here!

More daylight, warmer temps, plenty of sunshine.

Let’s get excited for summer!

Warmer weather offers many benefits – more time to be active: gardening, playing golf, walking the dog, cycling, swimming, playing with grandkids at the park, etc. Whatever it is, get out there. Do what you love and stay moving.

With that said, more activity and longer days may also contribute to an increase in calories without even knowing it. On a hot summer day (or night) a nice cold soda or an extra scoop of ice cream (mint chocolate chip is my fav) taste great. Too many too often, however, add up.

Now, I’m not suggesting you turn down the weekly neighborhood BBQ, your summertime boozie smoothie, or a favorite summertime dessert (mine is my sister’s open peach pie). I’m just suggesting that summer can throw us a curve ball, so be mindful of what you’ve been doing to support your fitness goals and stick with it. Here are a few added tips:

  •  Keep your appointments at the gym. Just because you’re more active in warmer weather doesn’t mean you should give up on your workouts at the gym. Up the ante. You’ll be fitter for it.
  • Give your nutrition a lift. Expand your menu with the wide variety of fruits and veggies that summer brings. Get creative. Need some ideas? Check these out from the Food Network.
  • Stay hydrated. Water intake is vital to our health, but even more so in the summer months. Don’t underestimate your thirst.
  • Get your vitamin D. Sunshine is great, but do remember to use sunscreen. Take it from this redhead who doesn’t tan.

Here’s to a healthy and fun summer.

Whatever you do, DO IT FOR LIFE NOW!
